The year is 2014.  I am a wellness and fitness professional who makes presentations for corporations, health organizations, non-profits, and the community. I teach yoga, indoor cycling, and other fitness classes across the country. I live and advocate a healthy lifestyle, making good nutritional choices, exercising above the norm, and engaging in stress free activities. At age 48, my health reports are good, i.e. no diabetes, regular blood pressure, good BMI, etc. From the outside, I am the picture of health.

However, on October 4, 2014, I went to the hospital with a severe stomachache. I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer – a Stage IV cancer that had spread to my liver and bones. I was hospitalized at MedStar Washington Hospital Center for more than a month, where I received chemotherapy and other treatments. The doctor’s prognosis was that I would not survive.

My greatest support and inspiration to survive came from my faith in God and my extensive network of family (including my 86 year-old-father who has multiple myeloma cancer), friends, church members, and students from my fitness classes. My enjoyment of exercise was also a source of inspiration. Even while hospitalized, I continued to practice and teach yoga to my friends and doctors. The medical treatments along with my faith, prayers, love, laughter, and my healthy lifestyle provided the foundation for my recovery and healing. As of December 2015, there is no evidence of disease in my body!

In my role as a wellness consultant, I bring extensive experience as a strategic leader, creating health programs, public-private partnerships and high-impact community outreach efforts for urban populations. I am results-oriented, passionate, innovative, and dynamic, with a keen ability to conceive, execute, and deliver on goals to move organizations to action. My background as an event planner, project manager and meeting facilitator, combined with my love of exercise, has uniquely prepared me to spread messages of health and wellness across the country. I also hold a Master of Public Administration from Baruch College as a National Urban Fellow.

Through my program Everyday Work on Wellness (WOW), I provide a variety of services such as interactive wellness presentations, workplace wellness programs, and lifestyle wellness coaching. Whether in a workshop, at a conference or in a yoga or cycle studio, I work diligently to make sure that participants learn while enjoying the moment.

I feel that exercise is a three-legged stool: everyone’s life can Be Better by incorporatING some form of strength/resistance training, mind/body exercises, and aerobic activity.
